On Good Friday (10 April 2009), many people foregathered at Glad Tidings Petaling Jaya to be a part of this Easter commemoration, Beyond Tears Easter Drama. Each of our church members were encouraged to bring a friend or two along. In my case, Zhi Sheng, Sara and Sara’s mum allowed me the privilege to host them to this drama.
This drama is about the devastation, struggle and frustration which Kelly and Sam had to go through when their only child, Kevin’s life unfolded before them. In the beginning of the drama, the sound effects plotted a horrific car accident scene, involving Kevin. The above picture describes the following act, which witnessed the fear that Kevin’s mum faced, fearing for her son’s life.
After many attempts of surgery and medication, Kevin’s proved to have come to an abrupt halt. He was diagnosed to have ceased of brain activity. As the doctors revealed this untoward finding to Kelly and Sam, both of them were shocked entirely.
Sam couldn’t bear the frustration, wondering why was God so cruel to allow their only son to have to encounter such a fate. His overwhelming sadness agonized himself completely and manifested into hatred towards God.
Kevin’s relatives also arrived, all being dumbfounded on what had happened to Kevin. They pleaded to the doctor, telling her that they will bear whatever the cost would be, wanting to ensure that Kevin’s life was to be preserved. They insisted that Kevin was a wonderful boy and should never be the person to have such a fate.
Staring into the helpless and monotonous face of her son, she yelled loudly in her heart asking him to awake. She was lost, not knowing whether continuing him on life support was a selfish act. Putting him down would mean putting herself to blame, as this decision would not involve Kevin, his own soul bearer.
The next act brought the audiences back into many many years ago of this very Friday. This was the day when Jesus was crucified on the cross. He too was helpless physically, but remained strong emotionally and spiritually. Did he deserve such a fate himself? Was it God’s fault that he had to come to face such despair in life?
During Jesus’s crucifixion, His mother, Mary bore the emotional pain which He bore physically. She too remained confuse and blamed herself for His untoward destiny. But what she did was to not be selfish, and went according to His desire to allow such a proceeding to happen.
After many contemplations, they finally decided that it was time to let Kevin go. As looking beyond tears, there would be joy and happiness. Soon, Kevin returned to the realms of God.
The next act leaped a 2 year time frame. It portrayed a thankful and happy lot, celebrating the recovery of their friend who was successful in a kidney transplant. The transplanted kidney once belonged to Kevin.
Sam and Kelly finally experienced the joy beyond tears, as the lost of Kevin provided a second chance to another person.

Sunday the 29th of March was the Resident’s Cycling Workshop organized by Desa Parkcity, and co-sponsored by imcyclist.com. Apparently, this marked the second Bicycle Workshop session ever held here. The workshop kicked start at 9.30am.
I only managed to arrive at the this workshop at 10.30am, immediately after my Sunday church service. Upon arrival, the dispersing early crowd deserted the arena. Only a few folks and couples were left at the workshop together with the staff. However, there was still an influx of participants, wanting to be involved in this NO licence, NO road tax fun! Before entering the “circuit”, safety was to be ensured first! Seen above is a photo taken of Edwin (bicycle shop owner) gearing the cyclists up with necessary safety equipments. After that, they mounted the bikes and set off.
Ever wondered what a pinch of extreme sports would be like? This obstacle course was no easy job! No matter, this young one managed to complete it flawlessly after several attempts.
This 2 seater bicycle was made available to “experienced” cyclists. The requisites of being experience were just to sit back and listen to a 2 minute crash course on how to maneuver the bike!
It was very pleasing to see how this activity allowed family and friends get together and thicken their bonds. Above is a photo I find to be very memorable. It tends to reminisce our happy young times spent with our parents.
On 25th February 2009 (Friday), Monash once again spiced up the mundane freshman’s orientation week with a whole lot of joy and fun via the MOlympics event. This Olympics sound-alike event provided an opportunity for the freshmen to mingle and get to know one another. Resembling the Olympics, MOlympics is also a competitive “fun-sports” events, where all participants will have to put their sportsmanship into play, in some real hilarious, silly and yet fun games! Above is a picture of the contestants, making their sportsmanship pledges prior to the launch of the event.
I was surprised by the amount of photographers present at this event. No matter, I was together with Christopher for the photo-shooting of this event. The new freshmen were each designated into a group colour, which signifies their respective faculty. Above is a picture of the red group, screaming “YEAH!”.
Prior to the commence of the MOlympics games, a little warm up and body stretching session was firstly held. That day, I noticed that in this semester, there were many more exchange students here at the Sunway Campus compared to the semesters before. Seen above is a picture of the business faculty students loosening their wrist joints!
The first game was the sponge race. The idea of the game is to keep the water absorbed in the sponge, clip it against your armpits and run to the pail to fill the water in. In midst of the starting point and the pail, the “sponge baton” has to be passed on to 3 other members. Above is a picture of my high school friend, Khai Hong who is new to Monash and is present at this orientation event.
This is yet another shot taken during the sponge race. This match was contested between the engineering (orange) and the science (blue) faculties. I would say that this was my best shot of the day.
Next was the Frisbee game. I honestly have the faintest clue and idea how this game works and what are the winning criteria is. All I know was that everyone had fun throwing and fetching the disk.
As the tuck of war games were in possession, cheering and claps were heard from afar. This was truly a team bonding game, as everyone held the rope and pulled it together in sequence.
Even when you fall, have faith that your team will be backing you up – That is what teamwork is! Above is a picture of the engineering faculty (yellow) during their match of tuck of war against the science faculty (red).
Lastly was the water war games. Everyone actually went berserk with their water guns, water balloons and water barrels. Splashes of water were followed by shrieky screams. This was the time which my camera had to get into hiding. Seen above is a picture of the girls, loading their guns with ammunitions.
After the games, the MOlympics event was over. Oh wait, this guy is still obsessive with his water gun. Time to go home guys!

Our main agenda for coming to Perth is for Today. As today is the day where my sister is officially a Curtin University, Bachelor of Science (Food Science) graduate. Above is a shot of her, together with her teddy bear (purchased at the university graduation stall), both in their regalia.
Different graduates of different faculties here at Curtin have their respective sash colours. For my sister’s case, the science faculty graduates are symbolized with the aqua sash. Seen above is a picture of my parents with the graduate.
Before the commence of the convocation, we managed to take a few shots around the campus of my sister with us, family members and her friends. Above is a family picture taken by Sebastian.

At 7.30 pm sharp, all the professors and deans started to march into the Graduation Arena. Above is a picture taken from a far back, where I was seated with the 70-200 lens.
After finishing the singing of the Australian National anthem, we were eventually given the pleasure to be seated. Henceforth, the graduation ceremony begun. Seen above is a shot taken during the opening speech by the chancellor.
Upon the ending of the scroll awarding proceedings, this graduation ceremony was to be put to a close with a performance by a female vocalist, with her song – Time to say goodbye.
Immediately after the song, fireworks were set blasting into the skies. Unfortunately I lacked the time to swap lenses at that moment, and was only able to take a close up shot of the fireworks display.
After the ceremony, we once again got another group picture. This time, with my sister’s Graduation Scroll at hand.
I believe that all Su-Yen’s friends and relatives will be extremely proud of her success and achievement. Just for an update, she is currently happily employed by Coca-cola Amatil in Perth, Australia as a Quality Technician. Above is my washed-out sister after a long day’s work in her Coke Zero uniform.

On the 7th February 2009 (Saturday), all present at The Waterfront @ Parkcity witnessed the spectacular Lion Dance at The Waterfront and ushered in the year of the Ox with an array of traditional Chinese performances by the highly-acclaimed troupe from Chung Hwa Independent high school. Above is a picture of Chun Xiong and Wei Li, standing by the event’s poster.
The venue for this event was at the car porch area of The Waterfront at Desa Parkcity. At precisely 4.15pm, the rolling of the Chinese drums began, signifying the opening of the day’s event. Pended in line for the day, were performances such as the 24 Season drum, Dancing, Chinese Orchestra, Chinese Yo-yo, Magic Show, Chinese Kung Fu, and the all time favourite Lion Dance.

24 Season Drum
This 24 Season Drum is an art, founded proudly by us, the Malaysians. This drum performance is usually done as an accompaniment to opening ceremonies. Why weren’t there 24 drums you ask? I remain to be oblivious.
Clown Dance
A dance by the clowns, together with a group of “Wiseman”.
Magic Show
The MCs introduced this Magician to the crowd, constantly reminding us that she is new and nervous. However in the eyes of the audiences, her magic tricks were flawless and professional!
Fortune God
Based on Chinese tradition, the Fortune God (as its name implies) presents you with fortune. Today, he came to present us all with “kam” (Mandarin oranges). “Kam” signifies wealth as in Cantonese, this word sounds like Gold. In fact, the fruit is indeed orangey gold in colour!
Chinese Yo-yo
The Chinese Pro-yo. This is a traditional Yo-yo played by the Chinese back during the Monarchy ages of China.
Chinese Dance
This dance, together with the outfit, seem to have a resemblance of the Chinese film directed by Xiaogang Feng – The Banquet ( 夜宴 )
Chinese Kung Fu (WuShu)
The ancient Chinese Martial Arts which has been passed down from generations to generations.
Lion Dance
And for the finale, it was the Lion Dance performance. Thrilling it was to see the lion jump back and forth the various pillar stands.
A wonderful and exciting performance played by the students of Chung Hwa Independent High School. I believe everyone, including me truly salute your efforts and talents!
