This week has surely been a hectic week. I've been held back in uni day after day by projects, assignments and tests that just seems to be never ending. No matter, it was good to know that despite all these work-load, there were good mates by my side to back me up!
Time swooshed through so quickly, that I've actually commenced my uni education with Monash for 8 weeks already! I guess it felt that 8 weeks past so quickly because I've been having deadlines after deadlines for projects and assignments to be met! But I have to admit that the main factor which allowed me to feel settled in uni so well is company..
I shall recap the encounter of how a few very compatible people ended up meeting one another in one another's crossroads.
On the first week's Wednesday of uni, I arrived fairly early; parked my car and headed towards the cafeteria with my lunch box. I strolled around and finally indecisively sat down at a table ALONE and started to gorge on my pre-packed-home-made sandwich. I then looked around again, trying my luck to catch the eye of a familiar face; but it proved to be no luck. I then pitifully finished my sand which and decided to head into the lecture hall, in preparation for the upcoming maths lecture at 1pm to begin.
I, the usual kiasu fellah, always wanted the privilege of a being a front bencher. As soon as I stepped into the lecture hall, I sneaked to the front and sat on the only available 2nd row seat, next to a guy. The math lecturer, Mr Tan announced his entrance by asking us to each grab hold of a set of lecture notes from the back of the lecture hall. The guy seated next to me seemed rather indulged in his PSA work, hence I offered to go grab him a copy too. After handing him a copy, we self intro-ed and that's how I came to know Chris.
The next day, I as usual left exceptionally early for uni to avoid bad traffic. Upon my arrival, coincidentally Chris arrived slightly before me. We then proceeded into uni and chatted and came to know of the many things we have in common, for instance our personality, interests, personal values and most of all our TIME TABLE! Our "random time table" was like a perfect match!
Soon, we went into the lecture hall and Chris intro-ed me to a guy named Bernard. Initially I found Bernard rather cold as he didn't seem warm about the "Hello, nice to meet you" part. I came to know that Bernard is in the same PSA tutorial as me, which was to be commenced after lunch.
We then met up and had lunch together and had a fair bit of a chat. When he told me that he was from St John's, my first question was: "Do you know Erik Yeow?" And I could see the expression on his face! When I told him that Erik was my cousin, we seized the opportunity of knowing Erik as a common thing and started to "gossip" about him. Soon, we got to know one another better and finally realize of the many things we had in common too.
Not long after, I got to know of Yen Kaye and Ji Sheng. The 5 of us were always together and it enhanced the joyfulness a uni student's life. After the A-level results were out, both Chris and Yen Kaye got 4 flash As. As they have initially got a pending scholarship offer at NTU, they had to make up their minds on whether to proceed with picking up that offer or not. That week was a total mental distress for me as I too was awaiting my A-level results and was really selfish of praying that they wouldn't leave Monash for NTU.
Eventually, Yen Kaye moved on while Chris decided to stay at Monash. I the usual softy who cannot take partings well, shed a tear while seeing Kaye's shadows fade away from Monash. Embarrassingly, Bernard witnessed it! HAHA!
Up to this very point, we still do keep in touch with Kaye always thru the wonderful services provided in the Internet.
It still amazes me on the fact of how we, different individuals from different worlds with different paths; who had to make many decisions at many of our own crossroads; can end up bumping into each other at this rendezvous - the "Monash crossroad". And upon this encounter, we found the many many similarities we have. I guess this is real fate, all pre-planned by God.
